I did recently send my lens out to have a fingerprint removed that a canon tech left there last year when it was serviced (also to have a rubber ring replaced due to abrasion/cut), and they charged me about $290 for the service...funny thing though, when I got the lens back the finger print was still there and the rubber ring wasn't changed. I'm still not sure what they charged me for, though they did replace the rear mount that didn't seem like it needed to be replaced. When I contacted them they said to send it back and they would redo the service for free. As for reasoning, all the rep I spoke with could think of was that what I asked for would have taken more than three days (standard turnaround, I guess) because they had to re-align the internal elements, which somewhat understandably takes time, and that i wouldn't want to be without it for that long. Considering it was gone for almost two weeks with shipping times, I guess saving that additional few(?) days will cost me another two weeks when I have to send it back.
The best part is that this was CPS service (as it was when they put the finger print there in the first place). I shudder to think what the non-pro service would have done...

Has anyone else ever had to have a lens cleaned to eliminate fungus? I'm wondering how long does it take? about what does it cost? and is the lens "like new" when it's fixed.
Any comments on experiences would be appreciated.
