The 300EZ has a GN = 93.I am planning on buying a more powerful dediated flash for my A2. I currently use a 300EZ with my shorter lenses and a vivitar 285hv when I need a powerful flash. I am considering a new 540ez or the sigma ef500 super,
The 540EZ & 550EX = 138.
The Sigma EF-500 Super & EF-500ST = 132.
When you say <more power> do you want faster recycle time or more output per flash? If the former, you don't need a new flash, you need a Quantum add-on battery. If the latter, the guide numbers listed above show how much more you can pick up with a more powerful shoe-mount unit. If you REALLY want more light per flash, you may need to consider a handle-mount unit like the Metz 45CL1 or 60CT4 or Sunpak 555 or 622. The Metz 60CT4 (for instance) has a GN = 197. All the ones I list offer TTL/OTF by the way, but require a module.
