Bob,
   You are absolutely right.  Digital can trade one set of problems for
another.  Using digital, one does not have to worry about incorrect camera
settings (easy to see and correct on the spot), lack of film, opening the
camera back while changing film, and many other things.  OTOH, a card can
die (can you say micordrive?).  So you learn.  Pretty soon, you take two
bodies, two flashes, use multiple smaller CF cards (splits the frames over
more hardware), your cell phone and your PDA to assignments (in case your
editor got the assignment wrong), and especially several sets of extra
batteries for all of the above.  You back up all your files to the hard
drive _and_ CD as soon as you end the shoot.  Now, you're getting closer to
getting the shot EVERY time!
