But, - big but here, my camera DOES have this icon (rect. with 2 arcs
and dot in centre) for what apparently is evaluative metering, and
does not have spot metering. I just thought that icon would make
perfect sense for partial metering, but I guess not.

I just did a quick test with the camera and the manual and you all
seem to be correct, judging by the difference I noticed. I simply used
a scene with a dark object the centre circle covered, and with partial
metering the camera indicated it would expose the most.

But, the icons still don't make sense according to their modes and
what the icon portrays for symbols.
