The EOS 5/A2/A2e was infamous for problems with it's command dial. I haven't heard much about similar problems with the Elan, though. If the camera was not under warranty anymore then Horizon in Fremont(?), CA seemed to be a popular place to fix it. It's not cheap but they replace it with more sturdy part, I believe.
