I was reading the instruction manual for the Canon IS telephotos (300 f2.8 
and up).  I am sure that this generation of IS lenses (as opposed to the 
75-300 IS and 300 f4 IS) allows IS to be used on tripods to reduce vibration, 
but the instruction booklet says to turn IS off on a tripod on these lenses.  
Somewhere along the line I think I remember reading that Canon made an error 
with their instruction booklets (I am surprised they haven't fixed that yet) 
but just wanted to confirm...you can use IS with the lens tripod mounted with 
these lenses...correct?
