No, it means that with the Kodak camera, you get a little more than you pay for compared with anyone else's, including the 1Ds. The only issue is that your needs may vary from that of the reviewer.
The Kodak camera obviously has some deficiencies with respect to the 1Ds as far as various handling and body functions are concerned, but you do get the best image quality overall if you make the efforts necessary. Whether those downsides are worth the cost savings are a matter which you must decide individually.
There is no universal answer.
I don't have $8000 or $4500 to spend on a digital body at this time, so this is just an intellectual curiosity to me. In a couple of years, when a 10D type body has a 1Ds type sensor and is available for $2000, I'll be in the market. Until then, I'll 'live' with the D60, which makes wonderful images even though they aren't as good as those from the 1Ds or 14n. I'll live. I'll still make images with my Sinar that will blow the digital out of the water (he says smugly :-)).
