Michael,
What has been your opinion of the flash exposure?

Hmm, hard to say. I have picked up the camera on Saturday and didn't do too much testing yet with flash. Most of the time I use the Metz flash anyway.

I have played around a little in my favourite bar
on the weekend mostly with 3200 ISO - whoa!

A few shots with the 220 EX followed. I usually
only had this with me for the AF helplight,
and when using flash would use the Metz 36 CT3
or the 45 CT3.

My setup is always the same, body on manual mode,
trying to get close to the ambient or at least
not too far away, flash autoreduction off, center
AF point manually selected, AF on *-button,
partial metering. Flash covered with Full CTO
gel filter and camera set manually to tungsten WB.

Might change that to Half CTO or three qarters CTO
now that a manual color temperature setting is
available, leaves some extra warmth in the
background.

The 220 EX seemed to fare pretty well with that,
but after only a few shots I can't say anything
for guaranteed. Next week I'll do some more
nightlife shooting and will be able to tell you
guys much more afterwards.

Has this also improved? I know you had many complaints in this area.

Yes, E-TTL as implemented in the D30/D60 was pure crap. The reason why I skipped the 550 EX and dug out my old Metz flash guns again.

But basically the 10D is really a tool and not
half a toy like the predecessors D30/D60, I am
more than satisfied. The changed button layout
needs 3 minutes thinking and then you can't help
but wondering why they didn't do it this way
before. Or on the 1Ds, which seems even more
awkward in handling compared to the 10D.

Now, the 10D with true spot metering, grid screen
(user replacable) and IEEE 1394 firewire connection
would really be anything I'd ever want.

I got used to not having extreme wide angle on it
like with film, it's not as painful as I feared.
