No I don't Marc. I have a carefully laid out folder organisation that I rely on for file identification and retrieval. When I do the "convert and save as" function in File Viewer I notice the option for renaming files. Is this a reasonable tool for renaming files or have you found problems with it ?

It works fine. The limitation on it is you can only customize the first 6 or 7 letters. So you have to pick something like CABB03_XXXXXX, the program will fill in the X's with a numerical sequence and you have to establish a code that you can read later. For the above it's California, Big Bear 2003. I'm in trouble if I find another BB in California though... :)
