Bob,

Altough I love the histogram function of my 10D and altough I agree that I
shoot more, I'm not sure it helps with my eye. Maybe you can help me here.

When I use my Elan II I always have my light meter with me. When I use a
little Leica M4, the meter MUST be in my hands all the time. I still don't
have a meter inside my brain and I doubt I ever will. Specially withy the
Leica, the process is slower, more "intimate", if you know what I mean. I
tend to evaluate better what I'm doing because the process is slower.

With the 10D I use the meter rarely because I trust the histrogram and have
real time feedback. My picture taking process is becoming faster and I KNOW
it's also becoming worst, not as clever, not as evaluative, not as
selective.

This is something that I'm fighting right now. Every time I go out to shoot
I try to move back to the "old" way of doing things, try not to bite the
"oh, just press the shutter and delete it if it's not good" bandwagon.

Yes, the 10D gives me more pleasure then my film cameras just after the
shooting session. And the Leica gives me more pleasure DURING the session.

Maybe this is just me. Hope I can find a "solution".

Nelson

Subject: Re: EOS Digital focus, so to speak

I recently attended a digital printing seminar, and
the presenter made a point t

hat played a big role in my decision to by the 10D.
Basically, he made the point that since there are no
processing and film costs, and you can delete what you
don't like, you tend to be willing to shoot a lot more
of any given subject. Not only does that improve your
odds of getting the best shot, but the more you shoot
the better your "eye" gets (at least we hope so). Add
in the ability to review your shots pretty much
instantly, and reshoot if necessary, and shooting
digital is going to improve your work.

And that is why I bit the bullet. Not cost savings
(it'll take me a while to save enough on film and
processing), not technology per se, but the ability to
improve my photography.

I am, however, keeping my film bodies. For some
purposes I'll still shoot film, and wide angle is one
of the reasons.
