It is the "thumbnail", a small (160x120) JPG that the camera 
uses when you play them on the LCD. If you change the extension 
to JPG you can view it with any browser or image program. I'm 
sure ZoomBrowser uses it, as well as BreezeBrowser to collect 
EXIF data as well as quick thumbnail display. There's a web 
page "Why keep the THMs?" at 
www.rogercavanagh.com/helpinfo/13_why_thms.htm with some
explanation of THMs. Since they're only 8K, there's really no
space reason to delete them. If you do a search on Google with
THM you'll find many people with info on the THM file.

BTW How do you like your 10D? I just got mine yesterday, I moved
up from a D30.
