Try Wimberly's modular flash bracket (www.tripodhead.com).  It comes in 3 pieces which 
can be detached and rearranged.  There is the bottom bracket, a side piece, and the 
top bracket where the flash is mounted centered above the lens.  

What you do is remove the side piece from the bottom bracket, and replace it with the 
top bracket.  The top bracket is now vertical on the side of the lens instead of 
horizontal above the lens.  The flash now sticks out to the side, properly centered on 
the lens.

I use this arrangement to shoot from the car with 550 flash and Better Beamer.  It 
should work fine from the blind as long as the opening is wide enough.
