I have just done a heap of printing with my new i9100. Whilst I've been very happy out of the box with Canon's A3+ printer I did notice some microbanding with some prints.
I have noticed on a few forums that other users have noted this problem. I was using PP-101 (glossy) paper. Micro-banding could be seen with a close inspection to the naked eye at less than 6 inches to the print in strong light. I have now changed to PR-101 and this problem seems to have gone away. I am overall very very happy with the i9100 and PR-101 paper combination. Colour is superb and rivals some of my Durst - Lambda prints!
