Has anyone actually been able to obtain an exemption for baggage with any airline? A colleague recently traveled and had the worst experience I have heard on Aer Lingus. They basically let him through but when boarding the plane refused to let him take his backpack (which had his laptop and camera equipment) on the plane. Even though they said it would be fine at the counter the grumpy attendant refused to abide by what the counter agent said.
