I've heard that the 35-350 is decent enough optically, but IS is so so
nice on a longer lens. I often shoot my 100-400 wide open down to
1/30th. That would be propped up on something, but still a far cry
from no IS.

I can't imagine not having IS, especially if a tripod won't be used
most of the time.

I have two lenses to fill between the 20-35 and the 100-400 but I
rarely need them. I have the 50/1.4 and the 85/1.8. I usually either
want wide, or long...
