The article says it's HSM, although the title doesn't. Gel filters seem ok, ANYTHING would likely vignette on the front of a 12mm, and gel filters are the norm for superwides anyway.
The built-in hood seems to be a Sigma thing, the 15-30mm has one too. I've not heard any complaints from folks who own one, but it would take some adapting for me, too. As for 6 diaphragm blades, I'm thinking there's not much bokeh to be had from a lens this wide and this slow.
