When I got mine, a 1GB microdrive was substantially cheaper than a 1BG (or two 512 MB) flash rom cards. It was also somewhat faster (in actual tests, see DPReview) than the flash ROM cards available at the time. Neither may be true any more. Choosing a single 1GB card vs. mutliple smaller ones is a tradeoff. Two 512 cards will cost more, but give you a safety factor in case one gets damaged. But if you're shooting RAW, you probably need TWO 1GB cards or to take a notebook computer or some other kind of storage along with you on a major expidition. I nearly filled up my 1GB card each day on my last trip. Downloaded the images to my notebook computer each evening.
