First let me mention that you can test all the lenses you want with digital but the wider angles may not be as good on digital bodies as they are on film simply because of the way wide angle light comes onto the sensor. Newer "digital" labeled lenses correct the light so more fall straight and directly onto the digital sensor. A colleague of mine who shots the Fujifilm S2 compared the Nikkor 24-85mm F2.8-4 with the new Tamron 28-75 F2.8 XR di (di for digital) lens. The Tamron delivered better results. You could see the difference when using the two on a digital SLR camera.
