After getting my film scanned to CD using a Fuji Frontier machine over the
past year or so, I've noticed a pattern that the scanned images often will
have a very thin strip of black band at the bottom of the image.

After mentioning this to the lab at various times without having any
success, I finally looked at the latest film strip today and noticed that
the exposed image frame is closer to the top sprocket holes than the bottom
ones, not by much but is visible by just looking at it, this explains why
there is a band of black at the bottom of the scanned image.

The camera is an EOS 3, it looks like there is about a millimetre of extra
space between the upper/lower film guides relative to the width of the film
strip, the film guides are machined as part of the casting that is solidly
mounted in the camera, so I don't think anything has moved to cause any
mis-alignment, however it is interesting to note that the black band is
always at the bottom of the image frame, never on the top, although the
height of the black band does vary from very thin to quite noticeable.

While this has never caused a problem with enlargement, it is a pain when
the electronic image shows this black band and will require editing to
achieve a clean image.

I'm wondering if any of list members who scan their films (either by
themselves or using a lab) have experienced this problem?

Regards,

Ken
