Just a thought,
Have you tried setting your sharpness to +2? My 10d seems to be fine as far as 
focusing , but I was getting a bit soft pictures at first, or with focus a bit off 
where it was supposed to be. But after setting sharpness to +2 - it's all taken care 
of.
