Not an answer to your question, just one of my own. I was told, when I
wanted to get a 380EX for my D30, that it wouldn't work, only the 420 and
550 EX flashes would work, fully, on the Canon EOS digitals. Do you have
any issues with your 380 and your 10D?

None I've found, from shooting and reading the manual, though I can't absolutely remember if I've tried 'M' exposure mode and flash together. The manual certainly says this will work.


I suspect there are/will be problems getting the flash's AF illuminator to work, which _might_ be helped by manually choosing the center focus point. Low light focusing of the 10D is good enough it hasn't been something I've thought about... Many's the time with my EOS 5 I wished I had a functioning AF illuminator on the flash. The 5's excellent red illuminator is half blocked by a 24-85 with hood.
