This afternoon, I was photographing ducks in the sky. I took seven pictures within three seconds with my 10D, and the second frame is totally black (no image at all), while the first and five last are perfect.
I was shooting on Automatic at ISO 400, and the exposure says it was the same for all seven shots: 1/1600 at f/6.3. Is my camera's shutter defective?

My first 10D did the same as soon as it went out iin the cold (-10C) - everything worked (shutter too), but my pictures were pure black. The store thought it was possibly because I had bought the cheaper Lexar 1GB cf card, and I should have bought the more expensive Sandisk extreme. I tried to argue that all of the informatiom was recorded properly, just the image was missing. Because the camera was new (2 days old), they replaced it.
I took the replacement to a graveyard the following Saturday (-12C to -15C) for 3 hours, not babying it at all, and it worked flawlessly. Same Lexar card too.
My theory is that maybe the CMOS sensor has an edge connector or something that doesn't like the cold, but somehow the camera doesn't know it's receiving all zeros. Sure like the replacement camera...
