Hi Bob,

Very early days (I've had the lens about 24 hours),
but my impressions are that it's very good and suits
*my* needs perfectly.

I've uploaded some shots taken this morning. They're
*straight* out of the camera converted from raw to
jpeg with *no* post-processing of *any* kind.

They use default (standard) sharpening etc from my
10D, exif data should be available if you download
the shots. They are taken at between max aperture and f8, from 1/15 sec to 1/500 sec
all with IS on,
all handheld, 1 @ 75mm, 3 @300mm.

I'm happy with my initial results.

As to impressions, it's a solid little lens, squat,
large diameter for 58mm filter size. Seems to handle well on the 10D. Build quality
is not quite like the 70-200 f4L - the extending barrels, while solid enough
are not like a fixed (physical) length lens. Still it's very well built. I think I
could/will come to
like it a lot. I also think it'll get more use than
my 70-200 f4L ever did. Probably more use than my
2.8 IS too.

Oh yes, the IS seems very much like the 70-200 IS in
operation, just a darker viewfinder due to the
smaller max aperture.

Files can be found (for the next few days at least)
