Hi All,
I was reading and reading this whole thread - and can't help buy wonder - do half of
you work for Canon or just try to justify how you spent your money? lol
Yes, Canon makes good lenses and cameras. Yes, Sigma USED TO make poor quality
products. And the both still do - sometimes, but a lot less than before. Maybe,
overall Canon is more reliable, but they better be - one of the biggest and oldest
camera makers. But I think that Canon used to be better - there is a reason that Canon
T90 still is a well respected camera and some FD L lenses rival in price and
performance current EF L lenses.
As far as Sigma goes - I personally believe that their EX lineup is great.
I have over 10 year experience in photography, part of which I did professionally.
I've had Canon products cause problems. Never had older Sigmas, but from the new EX -
I used 15mm, 50mm Macro, 105mm Macro and 70-200 2.8 HSM and all, performed wonderful -
optically and mechanically. At the same time, I 've had some problems with Canons -
mostly bodies though, not lenses. So, all I can say is - Canon is very good, but far
from perfect. Same goes for Sigma. Both can be your friend for life, and both can be
your worst nightmare. No telling which is first or more often.
George
