But the D60 had a higher resolution than the 1D. I think Canon knows full
well that most of us don't perceive MP as the Holy Grail.

Without hazarding a guess at what the successor to the 10D will do or not
do, I'll predict that unless Canon starts to reduce the crop factor soon in
their lower lever digital cameras, they're going to have to release another
EF-S zoom in the 10-12mm range at the wide end. Sigma had capitalized twice
now (15-30mm and now 12-24mm) on Canon's lack of superwide zooms for the
D30/60/10D/300D, and now Canon is behind the curve even with Nikon. So they
surely recognize the market demand for such focal lengths, which means a
smaller crop factor or wider zooms. And it seems to me Canon has always held
to the thought that ultimately, there's no reason for a smaller-than-35mm
sensor.
