I agree with that. From experience with IS (300/f4, 300/f2.8, 100-400 and
28-135) my photos are still sharper on a tripod than handheld with IS. I
have never viewed IS as a direct tripod replacement, but rather an added
feature that will give you acceptable to good sharpness in situations where
a tripod is not accessable or practical. With the 300/2.8 on a tripod, IS
opens even more possibilities in windy or rough conditions.
