Pritner resolution in dpi is different than, and can't
really be related to, image resolution in ppi.  Yes,
an Epson printer can lay down 720 or more dots per
inch, but multiple dots of various colors and sizes
are used to represent one pixel, so the number of
pixels per inch is significantly lower than the dpi
rating.

I've spent a lot of time looking into this, and
without a magnifying glass I defy anyone to tell the
difference between a print resolution of 240 and 300
ppi (on an Epson photo printer).
