I am wondering how the very high price of the 1Ds can be justified. The
housing is similar in cost to the 1V + battery grip which goes for about
2k. The additional electronics, back LCD, software etc is maybe $1k max.
Then add another $1k for the sensor to get to a total of $4k. Do not
subtract the cost for all the stuff in the 1V that is not in the 1Ds
anymore and instead add another $1k to the margin. That brings the
camera to $5k. I think this would be a justifiable price but $8k seems a
bit over the top. That leaves me the impression that Canon just tries to
milk the cows as long as they don't mind to be milked, which is mainly
true for professionals who burn tons of film and need quick turn around
times. Hopefully, in 1-2 years there will be enough competition that
will lower the price to a more reasonable and affordable price of $4k
for a 1Ds and $2k for something similar to a 3D. What is your opinion on
that?

Regards,
Robert
