I was going to blast back that the 300 f/4 was too old for weather sealing, but after I dug it out and looked at it and the IS version, I realize neither of them do.
I guess that's the end of my hypothesis. ;-) but then the 100-300 5.6 and 50-200mm lenses had the same optics in the regular and L versions......
