This is very interesting.

I, too, am on a D60 these past couple of years. In 12 to 18 months I will
be in a position to go 1st class, as you put it, with the 1D incumbent.
Because of the cost of digital gear, I've limited myself to one body
whereas previously with film it might have been two or three. From what
you say, it looks like keeping something like a D60 as body number 2
would be pretty much futile. It probably would not get used.

Does this mean that if I want 2 bodies, they'll both have to be 1D
territory? I suppose a spanking new1DMII and a tatty old 1D would be good
companions.

In actual fact, I now seriously doubt whether or not I need 2 bodies.
Having just a D60 these couple of years, I find that with the sort of
photography I do, I don't really miss a second. The only possible
reasoning I can come up with is for having 2 different ranges of focal
length on each shoulder. But swapping lenses is not that big a pain.
Besides, these days I'm more likely to wander around a crowded market
with a 14mm on, shooting from the hip. My days of jewelry-cam are
effectively over. Must be something to do with being over 40 ;-)

I am tempted to dump the 60 in favour of the 1D even now, and then slide
over to the 1DMII or III or whatever in 12 to 18 months.

Choices......

Thanks for the thoughts.

Cheers,
  Cotty
