Chasseur d'Image is reporting the rumor of a new Canon, to be named the 2D, and to be officially announced on 27 September. Sounds like the rumored 1Ds replacement with 22 MP sensor!

I find it interesting that this "rumor" was published the day after Nikon announced their new pro body. I suspect someone in Canon's marketing department leaked a dribble of information to steal a little of Nikon's thunder. If accurate, the "2" naming is interesting. I wonder if Canon has finally gotten tired of coming up with new variations on the "1" theme (F1, F1n, F1-N, EOS 1, 1N, 1v, 1D, 1Ds, 1DMkII...), and will follow Nikon in increasing the number of each new body. 10D becomes 20D (then 30D), 1D becomes 2D (followed by 3D?), maybe 300D becomes 400 (or 330, who knows). ===== Bob Meyer I don't suffer from insanity...
