Thank you to everyone who responded to me, on- and off-list, about my query.
I'll actually be assigned to a public affairs unit, and although I don't
think I'll be taking many photos in a duty capacity, when I do, the unit has
Nikon digital SLRs (I have no idea which specific bodies) that I will be
able to use. I am more concerned about taking (personal) snapshot-type
photos for folks back home to see, as I anticipate doing some type of online
photo album/weblog.

I do have an old Olympus E-100 P&S digital camera that has a 10x zoon with a
sealed front element. I thought it had recently died on me, but after
further investigation, perhaps just the batteries that were in the camera
(freshly recharged) had died. It has terrible shutter lag and very poor
low-light performance, but I think with new batteries it will fulfill most
of my needs, and if it is damaged/destroyed, it will cause me far less
heartache than a similar fate to my 10D or lenses.

So right now I plan to take the Olympus, but I'll have my EOS-3 and 10D with
a couple of lenses on stand-by for my husband to send over once I arrive, if
I really feel I need them.

Pattie
