Well, I guess my charmed life with the 20D has ended. After playing with it for two weeks and not having a single problem, I foolishly took it to a football game tonight without a backup camera. I hadn't taken 5 shots when it froze, nothing worked, aperture stuck saying 00 on the display. Open grip, remove batteries, 2, 3 or 10 shots later do it all over again. In the course of an hour and a half, It must have happened 15-20 times? Since it was still daylight and the 20D is so noise-free at 800, I only took one lens, the 75-300IS, opting to leave the bigger glass at home, so no lens changing. I did get a couple of ERR 01's too, cleaning and reseating the lens didn't seem to help.
So now do I install the firmware (which I had downloaded and not installed because I wasn't having a problem)? Yesterday that would have been an easy answer, but that was before Canon took the new firmware down from their site beause it seems to have killed some number of cameras. I think I may just wait a few days, use the 10D and see what develops, because I really don't want a camera that locks up or one that is dead. On the brighter side, it was pretty peppy even with the old 75-300IS lens. I"m just about to look at the pics, hopefully they will be encouragingly nice to take my mind off the camera....
