I only know for sure that the 1D can be modified, while the 1Ds can't 
(separate AA-filter vs sandwiched/glued onto the sensor)....to which 
my Canon contact replied with the CCD/CMOS distinction (as well as 
the  latter being softer/less-contrast).
Don't think he spoke in mark-II context, simply because the 1Ds-II 
wasn't released yet; he made it sound like common-knowledge field-
experiences/-sentiments.
