Sorry to re-chime-in on this 9-month-old discussion, but I do have a
couple of new comments.

I had stated before that I already own the Bogen-Manfrotto 3229, and am
happy with it as a purely *heavy duty* monopod. I have the quick
release for it and a swivel head, which gives it great versatility,
depending on the situation in which I need it.

My question way back in February 2004 (when most of this discussion took
place) was concerning Willem-Jan Markerink's recommendation of the
Cullman 741 model, which I have now been eyeing for several months. Not
a major financial purchase by any means, but one that would certainly
fit in a major way for situational needs (and who really needs multiple
monopods, in most cases?)..

But ... I recently ordered the Cullman 741 and I'm really impressed with
its own versatility. Very lightweight and perfect for certain needs. I
needed something for travel and the Cullman 741 seems to fit the bill
perfectly.

I now feel like I've got just about the best of both worlds, with the
super-heavy-duty Bogen 3229, which is great for sports events (and which
could in a pinch be used as a caveman-like club), and the super-compact,
lightweight and portable Cullman 741.

Just want to say thanks for the input back in February 2004. It was a
good discussion.
