Thanks Julian. I just assumed that when I double click, the file picks
the right application. I bought Stuffit Deluxe version 9 which has
Stuffit Expander.

The updaters come as .sea archives. If you use OS X, start Stuffit
Expander
(in Applications | Utilities ), then drag and drop the .sea files on
the
Stuffit expander window.
When I do this, I get DPP in a .pkg installer, EVU and ECU installers
in a
couple of nested folders.
However did you end up with a .gz file? GZ is a gnuzip archive, which
can be unzipped using gunzip. Even Canon knows how disoriented Mac
users become if forced to use the terminal bash shell! Even when
Booting OS X, the scary stuff is hidden, unless you use CMD-v
