The charger comes with the camera. I do charge up before a big shoot but not on a normal day-to-day basis. Most folks get around 1500 shots per battery charge with the camera in normal conditions so it's a serious day of shooting when the battery is used in one day. Or it's a cold day. With plenty of zooming and chimping it can be half that number. I have four batteries so I'm well covered. I think it comes with a firewire cord but don't quote me on that. I have dozens laying around and don't recall for sure. I'm pretty sure you have to use the battery charger, not the camera, to charge the batteries. It comes with a false battery that you can use to connect to AC to run tethered 24/7. I think the STE2 is a great accessory. I have two 550's that can do very nice portraits, particularly with the STE2 so they can both be taken off-camera and ratios can be set right from the camera on the STE2 to get just the shadows you want. I use filters on each lens but that's a personal call.

I am finally selling my f717 and associated gear. It was hard to part with. It's such a sweet little camera but my son in law wants it and I have a 10D and a MKII and stopped using it entirely so I'm giving him a great deal on it. Maybe we'll do some aurora shooting together. Enjoy the MKII. It's an amazing camera.

I never get Mack warranties but some people do and it's worth considering if you plan on keeping this camera for years. Canon still does the repairs for a camera like the MKII regardless.

I'd get a Giotto Rocket Blower for cleaning the sensor and blowing lenses clean if you don't have one already.

snip. For those of you with a mkII, did a battery
charger come with your camera as package standard? If not, do you charge the
battery by plugging the camera in (like the Sony F717?).

I am shooting currently with a 10d and a battery grip - it has become sort
of a ritual to take the batteries out and put them in the charger overnight
before a big shoot. I was wondering about the mkII.

Does it come with a tether cable for the laptop or desktop and C1Pro

So I am thinking of extra costs -
a back up battery?
A battery charger/discharger NC-E2?

I have CF cards.
I have a cable release for the 10d that I was told would work with the
1dmkII
I have a Speedlight EX550

What else will I or should I consider in purchasing the 1dmkII
