Well, I guess they must be different :) as the
Tripod Ring A (in either black or white!) will fit
both the 300 f4L and the 200 f2.8L. It also fits
the 70-200 f4L.
FWIW the black version (when available) is usually
cheaper than the white one. I guess black paint must
be cheaper than "Canon Special L off-white" paint.
