In addition to Helix, there is Central Camera on South Wabash Avenue, and Calumet Photo at 1111 N Cherry St. More info at www.helixcamera.com, www.centralcamera.com, and www.calumetphoto.com. All three of these are interesting to shop at, with knowledgable and helpful staff. The tradeoff for that level of service is that they they are not necessarily the place to get the best possible price. They all have web pages, but most items are at more like retail store pricing than on-line pricing. Calumet probably has the most competitive pricing of the three, followed by Central, with Helix generally highest or comparable with the others, but this can vary by item. I don't know about Calumet for used gear. Helix has a better selection than Central Camera, but prices tend to be a bit high. So, know what things are worth before you buy. If you are here over a weekend buy a Chicago Tribune on Saturday and check the classified ads for a Sunday camera show under the Cameras section. You will find some used gear there, but there's no telling what it will be from show to show. As you compare prices, keep in mind that you will pay an 8.75% sales tax when you buy in Chicago. I guess at $1.30 to the Euro, that's no big deal.
