Unfortunately, I've been too busy to test it thoroughly, although, I did use it as back up (ironic that!) on some room interiors (the shots on 5x4 with a 47XL were much better than both the 14 and 16-35 Canons and I'm not talking just resolution). I can't compare to the 1Ds, only to the D60 (from memory), 10D and Phase One H20. Firstly, I find the 1Dxx method of navigating the menu a PITA. Canon assure me that their test bunch of pros like this press and release, two button fandango and it is, in the words of their rep, "near idiot proof". Somewhat understandably it seems to be designed for the lowest common denominator - paparazzi? I am coming to terms with it, as I have to. I believe that anyone moving from a previous 1D should find it near identical. In terms of image quality - first impressions, it is not wildly different to the 10D, pixel for pixel. The files require different treatment to achieve a visually similar result, e.g. the 1Ds files require less USM than the 10D. The extra resolution is a mixed blessing. IMO the Canon software is still poor (haven't tried DPP yet). If anyone has any specific queries I'll try and answer them, but all the techie stuff is on the usual forums. No revelations here.
