Not a total advantage.  Like most things, it involves
trade-offs.  For one, it doesn't stabilize the
viewfinder image, which I find a significant benefit
of IS.  Second, it won't work with FF sensors, which
you like so much. And, of course, it won't work with
film bodies at all.
