You're the first person from the EOS group to answer, your advice is good. I've already discovered that you are right.
ACDSee for Mac has a great full-fram file viewer with some good options (including a black background) that the others don't have, but it's lightbox options are much poorer.

Why would you like use ACDSee for Mac? It's great program for wintel but on mac is crap. Try to use iView Media Pro or Graphic Converter.
