Don't drop your 50/1.4! My 50/1.4 was slow at focusing and I took it to the local Canon repair shop. The technician repaired it while I waited - we chatted and he told me they he gets a fair number of 1.4's in for repair. When the inner barrel gets distorted (which can happen if its dropped a very short distance onto the filter ring), the barrel binds and must be replaced.
