Subject: EOS Is Err99 learned???

Today, as soon as I got my 10D, I grabbed the Sigma lenses to see if
they would work. They did, all three (14mm f/3.5, 28mm f/1.8 Aspherical
& 400mm f/5.6 Apo). At least they did for about a dozen shots each.
Each lens worked fine. I took a bunch of pictures to test, AF, MF on
and off. Then I tested some other oddball T-mount lenses. Then I put
the camera down for a while.

I picked the camera up, mounted the Sigma 28, turned the camera on, took
a shot and shazam, Err99. I get the exact same results with the Sigma 14.

What's going on here? Did the 10D have to "learn" that these Sigmas
were bad? Why did it work for a while? Could I have prevented the
problem?

Bill,

When I discussed my EOS10D and Sigma 17-35 EX HSM (first version) problems
with Sigma UK, I seem to remember that they said the aperture motor drive
voltage in the 10D had been lowered. So if your first shots were taken at
full aperture, you wouldn't have noticed any problem. Sigma UK re-chipped
my lens and all was well.
(Unfortunately, they couldn't do anything for my older Sigma 500 f7.2 APO*
which has provided some super shots of birds when using my EOS3. *usable at
full aperture only on my 10D.)

I never think about turning my 10D off when changing lenses.

That's interesting. How old is your Sigma 17-35? The reason I ask is that I don't have any problems with mine (circa 2000) and my 20D...
