The compatibility table in the 100-400 manual is not entirely clear.
And it makes not mention of the variant behaviour with self-timer,
MLU or BULB.

E.g. On my EOS 1000FN, recharging the popup flash causes a power
brown-out to the lens, which results in a dramatic SHAKE in the
viewfinder. Fortunately, this only occurs after film exposure.
