I recently bought a Canon Cybershot S410 Elph 4.1mp point and shoot digital camera to take to Brazil since I don't want to risk my $1500 20D.
I'm amazingly surprised at how fast it is! It can only do ISO 400, but with a f/2.8-4.9 lens and 35-105mm (35mm equiv, I think) zoom, it's pretty nice! The shutter lag is reasonable... but then again, I haven't tried any sports with it yet or any situations where pre-focus wasn't attained first. I got it through Dell, for around $265 USD. The flash is definitely not a Speedlite... so if you use it, get used to harsh shadows, red eye, and bright white reflections from white surfaces.
