I can't speak for the 10D - 20D, but I did shoot with a D60 for about 2 years, and I CAN speak for it's image quality. You would not be disappointed with a good used model. It does have a somewhat "cheap" feel to it with the creaky, plastic body, but mine never gave me any problems, and I always got great results from it using RAW and either the Capture One or Breeze Browser conversion software. Forget the Canon software. I now use a 1Ds, but keep my D60 as a backup.

I'm curious, it's been almost exactly 3 years since the D60 was released. In some ways the 10D-20D progression reminds me of the D30-D60 progression. I'm sure some of you have shot both the D60 and the 20D. How has image quality progressed at this level? I know there have been a lot of improvements in functionality, speed, etc. but how has image quality changed? is it dramatic? (I haven't shot with either, but sometimes consider buying a used D60,) I'm guessing one big area is reduced noise at high ISOs, but what else?
