I can only vaguely remember that Bob Atkins once did some testing,
but mostly tripod-typical vibrations....at least in photo-context
that is probably the most elaborate field work done, or at least
present on the Net....but far from any formula's.

There's an extremely extensive report here from Markins and the vibration testing on their tripodheads. Yeah, nothing about handheld I think:
