I've had both lenses and you won't be disappointed with either one of
them as far as image quality goes.  AF is better on the Canon and
switching between AF & manual is slightly easier.  For macro though,
this really doesn't matter.  

The important difference (for me) was the availability of a tripod foot
on the Canon.  This allows recomposing from horizontal to vertical
without having to flop the tripod head and completely re-setup the shot.
