Hi Rich, The replies to your topic made me wonder if everybody is just too nervous about airlines, of if I'm just extremely lucky.
In this millenium alone I have made 66 commercial flights, on 14 different carriers in 5 continents (yes, I do keep track....). On each occasion I bring my Lowepro Photo Trekker Classic which includes: EOS-1V EOS-1D Mark II (was EOS 5) 17-35 / 2.8 28-135 / 3.5-5.6 70-200 / 2.8 300 / 2.8 1.4 x Extender 2.0 x Extender 550EX Handheld GPS Mini binoculars Recently I also put my laptop in the front pocket of my Photo Trekker and ever since I do digital I also bring the Epson P-2000 and a spare Canon battery for the 1D II. This brings the weight of my bag to about 14 kilos. And to make matters worse, on various occasions I also brought my 400/2.8 in its original grey samsonite-like casing as an extra carry on item. But never in those 66 flights anyone has commented on the size or weight of my luggage. Maybe with sending this email I am pushing my luck and will run into troubles next time (flying to South America in two weeks), but I hope that airline staff will keep helping me out as friendly as they have ever done. I hope that my experience will ease your worries. I'm stressed about checking it, even if I put it in some kind of carrying case. I normally use a Kinesis rig (belt with pouches, basically), but that may be awkward for getting in and out of airliners. So I'm thinking that a small hard case with room for my 1D II, 70-200mm 2.8, 24mm 1.2, 550EX, and maybe the 100mm macro would be great. Any recommendations for a case that would work and be for sure able to carry on?
